Building a Mathematical SARIMA Model for Forecasting the Number of Monthly Injured People by Traffic Accidents in Erbil City

Technology Reports of Kansai University (Issue: 03-62) (Volume: 9)

In this paper, the Box-Jenkins methodology representing the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average ARIMA time series model has been used to study the patterns of injured people caused by road traffic accidents in Erbil city as well as making a monthly forecast. A monthly accident data of injured people from January 2013 to June 2018 were obtained from the General Directorate of Traffic in Erbil Governorate. The results showed that the series has features of seasonality and the number of injuries due to traffic accidents is decreasing in most months of the year. Some suitable models were developed and SARIMA (0,1,1)(1,0,1)12 was stated as adequate and the best model depending on some performance measures. A monthly forecast was made using the best model and it showed that the number of injured cases due to traffic accidents would continue to decrease in Erbil city to the end of December 2020.

Annual Forecasting Using a Hybrid Approach

In this paper, we used a hybrid method based on wavelet transforms and ARIMA models and applied on the time series annual data of rain precipitation in the Province of Erbil-Iraq in millimeters. A sample size has been taken during the period 1970 - 2014.We intended to obtain the ability to explain how the hybrid method can be useful when making a forecast of time series and how the quality of forecasting can be enhanced through applying it on actual data and comparing the classical ARIMA method and our suggested method depending on some statistical criteria. Results of the study proved an advantage of the statistical hybrid method and showed that the forecast error could be reduced when applying Wavelet-ARIMA technique and this helps to give the enhancement of forecasting of the classical model. In addition, it was found that out of wavelet families, Daubechies wavelet of order two using fixed form thresholding with soft function is very suitable when de-noising the data and performed better than the others. The annual rainfall in Erbil in the coming years will be close to 370 millimeters.

Applying the Binary Logistic Regression Analysis on the Medical Data

In this paper, the Binary Logistic Regression Analysis BLRA technique has been used and applied for building the best model for Hepatitis disease data using best subsets regression and stepwise procedures and depending on some laboratory tests such as glutamate oxalate transaminase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase, alkaline phosphatase, and total serum bilirubin which represents explanatory variables. Also, the technique has used for classifying persons into two groups which are infected and non-infected with viral Hepatitis disease. A random sample size consists of 200 persons has been selected which represents 86 of uninfected and 114 of infected persons. The results of the analysis showed that first, the two procedures identified the same three explanatory variables out of four and they were statistically significant, and it has been reliable in building the logistic model. And second, the percentage of visible correct classification rate was about 98% which represents the high ability of the model for classification.

Forecasting the Electric Energy Supply in Duhok Province Using Proposed Methods Based on Wavelet Analysis and SARIMA Methods

Many applications have been done in the field of using wavelet analysis for time series analysis. In this study, we used the quarterly data of Electric Energy Supply in Duhok Province-Iraq in Megawatt which represents a sample size (46) observations during the period 2004 and 2015.we aim to describe how wavelet de-noising can be used in time series forecasting and improve the forecasting quality through presenting some proposed methods based on wavelet analysis and SARIMA method and applying on real data and make comparison between methods depending on some statistical criteria.Results from the analysis showed the superiority of the three proposed methods and showed that we can get more information from a series when using Wavelet-SARIMA method and this leads to enhance the classical SARIMA model in forecasting. Furthermore, after many empirical experiments with many wavelet families, it has been found that Daubechies, Coiflets, Discrete Meyer(dmey) and Symlet wavelets are very suitable when denoising the data and out of these four wavelet families, the Daubechies and Discrete Meyer performed better.

Time Series Forecasting Using Arima Methodology with Application on Census Data in Iraq

In this paper, the methodology of Box-Jenkins of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) has been used for applying and forecasting the census in Iraq by taking (61) observations of the annually census from 1950 to 2010. Several adequate models of time series have been built and some of the performance criteria have been used for the purpose of comparison between models. Results of the analysis showed that the ARI(2,2) model is adequate to be used to forecast the annually census data of Iraq. During the period 2011 to 2020, there will be (33.58%) increase in the population, and the population of Iraq in 2020 would be (41358200) persons.

Reducing the orders of mixed model (ARMA) before and after the wavelet de-noising with application

In this paper, the estimated linear model of Box-Jenkins such as ARMA(p,q) has been compared from time series observations ,before and after wavelet shrinkage filtering (used to solve the problem of contamination (or noise) if it found in the observations) and then reducing the order of the estimated model from filtered observations (with preserving the accuracy and suitability of the estimated models) and re-compared with the estimated linear model of original observations , depending on some statistical criteria , including the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) , the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) , and the Akaike`s Information Criterion (AIC) ,through taking practical application of time series (the housing permits) by using statistical programs (Statgraphics, NCSS and MATLAB). The results showed the efficiency of wavelet shrinkage filters in solving the noise problem and obtaining the efficient estimated models, and specifically the wavelet shrinkage filter (dmey) with Soft threshold which estimated it's level using the Fixed Form method of filtered observations, and the possibility of obtaining linear models of the filtered observations with lower orders and higher efficiency compared with the corresponding estimated model of original observations.

Comparison of Discriminant Analysis and Logistic Regression Analysis: An Application on Caesarean Births and Natural Births Data

The discriminant analysis DA and the logistic regression analysis LRA are two statistical techniques used for analyzing data and predicting group membership from a set of predictors. Many applications have been done in this area. In this paper, we have been focus for the comparison of the two statistical techniques through applying on real data and exactly on caesarean births and natural births data. The comparison was depending on two statistical criteria; apparent error rate AER and apparent correct classification rate ACCR and performing stepwise procedure. The results of the analysis showed that the performance of both techniques gave high ability in discriminating the kind of birth, whereas DA slightly exceeds LRA in the apparent correct classification rate and performed better than LRA in the births data. On the other hand, the results of DA showed that out of ten predicted variables, seven predictors exhibited strong evidence in classifying and discriminating the kind of birth, while the results of LRA showed that six predicted variables out of ten predictors have contributed significantly to discriminate the kind of birth. The suitable model for both techniques has been estimated depending on the selected predictors.

Improvement the Performance of the Simple Linear Regression Model by Using the Wavelet Shrinkage

In this research, Two methods have been used to build a simple linear regression model through the application on real data and taking a simple random sample size of (128) observations. The first method depending on raw data, while the second method by using wavelet shrinkage .In the second method the Daubechies wavelet (D4) was used to filter the raw data described in soft thresholding function with five multi-resolution levels of analysis and applying different methods to determine the levels of thresholding parameters. Results of the analysis showed the efficiency of wavelet shrinkage method in improving the performance of the linear regression model through reducing the value of the standard error of the estimate on the one hand and increasing the value of the coefficient of determination on the other hand compared with results of the estimated model of the raw data.

Using the Discriminant Analysis Technique to Distinguish Patients Who Have or Don`t Have the Diabetic Disease

In this research the discriminant analysis technique has been used to distinguish patients who have or don`t have the diabetic disease into two groups, based on some variables that have the discrimination features, including( sex , age , weight , ratio of blood sugar ). The study involved taking a simple random sample size (100) observations were divided into two groups , the first group includes (50) patients with diabetes and the second group includes (50) patients with non diabetic .The results of the research showed the statistical significance for all variables included in the analysis and it has been reliable in building the linear discriminant function. . The Percentage of correct discrimination for patients was about 97% which indicates the high ability of the model to distinguish between patients , while the value measure of reliability (kappa) was about 94% which indicates to the high efficiency of the estimated discriminatory function in the process of discrimination and prediction .The researchers recommend conducting similar studies , depending on the adoption of discriminatory variables in addition to other variables that are reliable in this research as well as conducting other similar studies , depending on the adoption of other discriminatory functions such as the quadratic and logical functions and comparing the results.
